Karen Reedy, a choreographer, dancer and educator, is the Artistic Director of Karen Reedy Dance.  She had her professional beginnings with D.C. Dance Theater and Eric Hampton Dance, among other groups. The beginnings of her choreographic career also took place in the D.C. dance community, where she presented her first full evening of dance in October 1997 before relocating to New York City.  In New York, Ms. Reedy danced with Robert Battle, Sue Bernhard, Louis Johnson, Patricia Kenny, and the Mark Morris Dance Group. In addition, she assisted such notable choreographers as Jirí Kylián, Hans van Manen, Eric Hampton, Robert Battle, and Nacho Duato, while a rehearsal director at The Juilliard School. All of these experiences profoundly influenced Ms. Reedy’s own work and her dedication to explore the range of possibilities in dance and performance.

In the spring of 2006, Ms. Reedy returned to Alexandria, VA in order to further establish her own company, Karen Reedy Dance. Ms. Reedy’s choreography has been enthusiastically received throughout the country, in venues including the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Dance Place, ODC, and Joyce SoHo. Her work has been presented by The Uptown Performance Series, Dancenow NYC, the d.u.m.b.o. Dance Festival, Cool NY, The 92nd Street Y, Black Rock Arts Center and The Torpedo Factory, among others. She was a 2008 recipient of the Kennedy Center’s Local Dance Commissioning Project, for the creation of her site-specific work, Sleepwalking.  Ms. Reedy was selected for the American Dance Institute Arts Incubator in the 2012-2013 season for the development and premiere of Albatross in June 2013.  Recently, Reedy directed and choreographed her first dance for film titled Les Falaises.

Ms. Reedy has been a dance educator for over fifteen years and has been on the faculty of the Mark Morris Dance Center, Joy of Motion Dance Center, the Washington School of Ballet, and the Chautauqua Institution. She holds an M.F.A. in Dance from George Mason University, where she currently is an Assistant Professor of Dance.
